Every mixed media artist knows your work is only as good as your tools and supplies. I always check my own stash but here are my go to supplies like clay, silicone, paints, sealers and embelishments. I'd love to go to a local shop for everything, but specialty embellishments are surprisingly hard to find nearby — so I've done the hunting online. I'll keep adding to this list as I discover new favourites, from classic glitter blends to unique beads and statement charms. Honest heads-up: some links are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you shop through them — at no extra cost to you.
I've found that making items from air-dry clay to serve as "masters" for molds is a budget-friendly technique. I love using DAS Air-Hardening Modeling Clay for its smooth texture.
Air-dry clay projects come together just fine with a mix of household items and a few basic tools. This is a great inexpensive kit if you need some fine tuning.
Polyurethane varnish is my all-in-one sealer for everything from air-dry clay to wood. Being water-based it is safe to use indoors and easy to clean. Thin coats with a soft brush, dry between layers. One product, so many projects.
A silicone mold making kit lets me turn my air-dry clay or 3D Printed masters into reusable molds. Just mix the two parts, pour over your original, and let it cure. You get a flexible mold perfect for resin, clay, or wax. Seal your master first so nothing sticks.
